The efforts before Ubuntu kicked in were so lame.

I also read about the GregKH complaint that Canonical doesnt contribute enough to the kernel, comparing the stats vs. RedHat or Novel Engineers. How laughable that was. A clear sign of "shit, we sucked in delivering a nice end user system and the company who does needs some negative press".

Its pretty clear that RedHat and Novel make tons of money out of linux, compared to Canonical. Why on earth should Canonical try to compete with them wrt to developers. Insane. Their contributen, that is to make linux an alternative to OSX and Windows is bigger than any fucked up driver that needs to be debugged. Of course the one cant live with the other, but there also must be a company who is smart enough to deliver an end-user linux.

RedHat and Novel COMPLETELY FAILED to do exactly that in the past.

I run Mac OSX as well as Ubuntu at work (using syn...

I run Mac OSX as well as Ubuntu at work (using synergy to provide a single keyboard/mouse).

Development on Ubuntu is much more productive then on a windows machine, and as far as java goes, more productive then on the mac.

I do wish that Apple would get more on board with java development then they have, but I see that you have covered that well in your last post.

David
http://www.translucent-development.com
http://www.translucent-design.com
